The End is at Hand (London), circa 1970WHY NFT's?
You may be wondering why a septuagenarian is minting NFTs of half-century-old photos. Good question. There are two main reasons: First, Bill is a hell of a photographer but maybe not the world’s best conservationist. His negatives, slides, and prints were in boxes in closets for years. They are sometimes not in the best shape. NFTs allow us to take the best possible surviving image and digitize it to capture the magic of his work for a collector. Second, Bill is turning 77 years old this year. He’s happily retired and not traveling much anymore. In a traditional art market, to promote his work, Bill might be expected to meet with gallerists, attend exhibition openings, schmooze with curators, all kinds of stuff that would interfere with his gardening and clamming. The NFT art market lets him bypass all that, while sharing his work and his story in a genuine way (with the help of his kids, who are helping him with the tech and social media aspects of the process). In short, the NFT form is allowing Bill’s work to get out into the world in a way that would have been difficult or impossible just a few years ago. Thank you for being part of it
